Using Austen's story line for the first quarter of the book, Zomparelli deftly carries the story well beyond Austen's original. The plot is well-imagined and compelling--I had a hard time putting the book down.As Austen relays, "The agony of [Marianne's and Mrs. Dashwood's] grief, which overpowered them at first, was voluntarily renewed, was sought for, was created again and again" (Ch. 1).
